For the last three days I have been staying with my Grandma Louise and Annie in Positano, a small town on the coast of Italy. To get to Positano, we had to take a train to Salerno and then take a ferry to Positano. My grandma was apprehensively waiting for us on the boat docks and cried as soon as we walked over to her. Three weeks ago they had waited for their friend to arrive in Rome's airport for over 5 hours. Unsure of her whereabouts and no means of communication, Annie and grandma had one of the most stressful days of their lives. This being said, Louise was a little concerned about us getting in to Positano. Luckily, we made it with no problems.
Day one:
The ferry ride from Salerno to Positano took us along the Almafi Coast. It was about a half hour ride from Salerno to Almafi, where we stopped to pick up and drop off people. From Almafi, we had a pretty rough ride. It got very windy and we were driving over a lot of white caps.
Almafi:
We pulled into Positano and this little town is what greeted us (besides the crazy ladies on the dock). The town is built into the bluff and spreads out across the hillside.
Positano:
This is our view on the way to "Villa Coradina", the apartment that my grandma was staying in.
That night we took the bus over to the opposite side of the town and had dinner.
On our walk back home form dinner, we turned the corner and saw the moon for the first time. Since I was in bed every night by 8 or 9 in Rome, this was the first time that I realized how full the moon was and it was even more brilliant shining on the water. Positano by night is facinating because everything lights up: the hills, the water, and the boats.
Well, I am sitting out on the deck and by computer is dying so I have to end it here for tonight. Tomorrow we have a reservation in Salerno for the night because we need to catch a 6 am train the following morning which will take us to Switzerland. That means we will be leaving this beautiful place. Besides missing everyone from home, I will have to start missing this beautiful, relaxing town as well.
